In Singapore standards and accreditation and legal metrology are the responsibility of the Standards, Productivity and Innovation Board (SPRING). Originally formed in 1996 as PSB by the merger of two existing bodies, SPRING was launched in 2001 and is Statutory Board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Within SPRING, standardisation is the responsibility of the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC), and legal metrology is the responsibility of the Weights and Measures Office (WMO).
Scientific Metrology is primarily the responsibility of the National Measurement Centre (NMC) which was formerly part of SPRING, and in 2008 was transferred to of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) which is an agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
