In Indonesia, standards are the responsibility of Badan Standardisasi Nasional [National Standardisation Agency]. BSN was established by statute in 1997 as a non-departmental government institution.

Accreditation is the responsibility of Komite Akreditasi Nasional [National Accreditation Committee]. KAN is a group within BSN, and is responsible for all aspects of accreditation in Indonesia: certification bodies, testing laboratories, and calibration laboratories.

Legal metrology falls within the remit of the Directorate of Metrology, Directorate General of Domestic Trade, Ministry of Industry (DOM^*).

Scientific metrology is the responsibility of Puslit KIM-LIPI, a research centre of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences. Founded in 1967, Puslit KIM-LIPI is mandated as a national measurement institute by the Indonesian government.
