Established by statute in 1986, the Asociación Española de Normalización y Certificación (AENOR) is responsible for standardisation in Spain, with the aim of improving quality of companies, products, services, the environment and well-being.

The Entidad Nacional de Acreditación (ENAC) was established by statute in 1992 to coordinate and manage the Spanish accreditation system. ENAC is a private, independent and non-profit body regulated by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Centro Español de Metrologia (CEM) is is responsible for the metrology infrastructure in Spain, both legal and scientific. CEM was created by statute in 1985, and is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Although CEM has primary responsibility for scientific metrology, other institutes are Associated Laboratories, with devolved responsibilities as shown in the tables below.
