In China, AQSIQ has direct responsibility for legal metrology, and is in control of SAC which has responsibility for standards. SAC is a central body, overseeing the work of provincial standards bodies.

The accreditation body, CNAS, was formed from the merger of CNAL and CNAB, which had been responsible for laboratory accreditation and certification bodies respectively.

NIM is responsible for scientific metrology.
