Responsibility in the UAE for standards, accreditation^*, and legal and scientific metrology all rest with the same body: the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology. ESMA was created by statute in 2001.

Within ESMA, the Emirates National Accreditation Service (ENAS) is responsible for accreditation.

UAE is a member of AIDMO, a regional body with interest in standards and accreditation. ESMA is not named as a specific member, but is the most likely body to represent UAE in AIDMO at a technical level.

* The Municipality of Dubai has its own accreditation body,the Dubai Municipality - Accreditation Centre (DAC).
